Flightless bird cracks me up every time.
This cracked me up! I laughed through the entire thing :D
In the final days of the Do Life tour (actually, in the midst of a 9-mile run in Portland) Pa and I started throwing around ideas for 2012.
We wanted to keep the ball going and are in love with the idea of being an online movement that’s based offline.
After about 30 minutes, we came up with the plan. And once the plan started to take shape, it became a no-brainer.
We would run 52 official marathons and put on 52 Do Life 5K/meetups in the 52 weeks of 2012.
Why? … Well, there’s a few reasons. Let’s go bullet-points at it, shall we?
- To raise money for awesome charities and causes that we, as a community, feel passionate about. The 52 weeks will be broken down into a charity/cause of the week so we can devote full energy to each cause. And we are going to open this up to the masses. If you are passionate about a charity or cause, nominate it in the comment section and tell us why it’s perfect for the tour.
- Because, if there’s anything we learned from the first tour, it’s that getting like-minded individuals together is a really inspiring thing.
- A one-year tour of marathons, Do Life 5Ks, and meeting new people and meeting up with old friends from the first tour? Um… yes, please.
So here are a few logistics:
- Every Saturday or Sunday, we will be running an official marathon. But that’s not all. We will be running as an unofficial pacing group doing 5:30-6-hour marathons. This way, new runners who might want to coordinate their first-ever marathons can run with us at a reasonable beginner pace.
- Depending on whether the marathon is on a Saturday or Sunday, we will be coordinating and hosting 52 Do Life 5Ks on the non-marathon-day. The 5Ks will be much like this year’s tour. We will be changing some of the logistics, but the main premise will remain the same. And rest assured that the Do Life 5Ks will definitely be free of charge.
- We will be arriving into each city on Thursday of each week and seeking out speaking engagements in the city and the surrounding areas for Thursday and Friday. These might be in conjunction with the Marathon expo, some of them will be independent speaking engagements set up through local fitness centers, YMCAs, universities and high schools.
Now! We need your help.
We don’t want to just do 52 random marathons; we want to do 52 awesome marathons in 52 awesome places. We want to see it all.
Help us out by
- Nominating a marathon in the comment section. Please leave the date, the city, and the country (oh yeah, London, we’s a comin’ for you). Also, let us know a little bit about the marathon.
- Nominating some national and local charities. We think this will work best if we have a nice mix of big and small charities.
- Spreading the word. Sharing this link and mentioning this endeavor to your local running stores, fitness centers, news outlets, etc will help a great deal.
If you have any questions or comments, leave them in the comment section and we’ll be compiling a FAQ with some more information soon.

52 5Ks
52 Weeks.Pa, you thought you got tired of me this summer? It’s about to get a whole lot better.
See you out there.
Did I mention that I haven’t run a 12-minute mile since seventh grade (6 years ago)? I’m feeling good! (Even if my legs aren’t - haha)

I just got back from the beach (where I had some crappity internet connection), so this is being posted a bit late. Better late than never, right? :) Well, I think that this week of exercise was pretty amazing for being my second week exercising (in foreveerrrrr). Also, I’m still sore from Saturday, because that’s the day that I worked out with my cousin, and she made me kick my own butt! UGH. Now, I kinda hate these ab exercises, even if they will make me bikini-ready: Russian twists, toe touches (on ground), row boat, reverse row boat, planks, side planks, superman, starfish… OW. But, even though I couldn’t use my abs to pull myself up from a laying position for the last few days because of these exercises, I will be introducing them to my gym-buddy, Beth, and we’ll do them with medicine balls, and look awesome in our bikinis by summer because of them! :)
Day 113
1569 calories in (yes, it’s a couple hundred over my limit, but I was fricken hungry, so I ATE! And, it was healthy food!), 501+ calories out! (Anyone know how to calculate how many calories you burn when weight lifting? If you do, please respond to this post, or in my ask!)
Also, for the next few days, I will be at the beach with my dad’s side of the family, so I have decided not to count calories because it will be too difficult to calculate all the homemade foods. But, I will make sure to watch what I am eating! I’m also going to take my running gear (shoes, iPod holder, exercise clothes) and see if anyone wants to go for runs/jogs with me. It will probably only end up being my cousin (she’s a dancer, and the fittest of all of us) and me, but I hope some others decide they want to go too! Okay, well if I want to go I’ve got to finish packing and get to sleep now!
Day 109
1056 calories consumed. 1 mile ran (kinda slowly). Football watched. TV yelled at. Desperate Houswives watched. TV yelled at. Math homework procrastinated - ALL DAY.
Now, it’s just time to do that math homework and prepare for class, gym, and the BCS National Championship tomorrow! (GO DUCKS!)
***ALSO, I posted some new progress photos :)
My first mile in FOREVERRRRR… I thought I did well, considering I’ve only put on 2 minutes since my middle school (6ish years ago) time of 12ish minutes. :) (I haven’t run since middle school)
Hey everyone!
So glad to have you participating in the Fitblr Races! This is your opportunity to set some personal records, run further and faster than you ever have, and push yourself to your limit.
Every month will be a new set of challenges. You have the chance to run a one-miler, a…
I’m going for one mile this time around - probably 2 miles next month! :D I’m excited!!!
Exercise Log: Week 1
I think that I’m going to start making a weekly exercise log (like this thing right here…) So I can track my progress and keep myself motivated! I’ll try to update daily, but just post weekly so I’m not spamming all of you with exercise logs (like I already do with my calories - sorry ‘bout that). So, here’s my first one:
January 2 - 8, 2011
- Sunday: Dance workout DVD for 25 minutes
60 Bicep & Tricep curls with 3lb weights - Monday: 100 Bi/Tricep curls with 3lb weights
- Tuesday: 25 minutes of C25K (Week 1, on treadmill) = 1.25 miles
100 Bi/Tricep curls with 3lb weights - Wednesday: Rest Day
- Thursday: 20 minutes recumbent bike
10 minutes stretching (on exercise ball)
10 minutes throwing 10lb medicine ball (sitting)
10 minutes squat-throw 10lb medicine ball
10 minutes elliptical - Friday: 15 minutes elliptical
15 minutes recumbent bike
45 minutes various weight machines - Saturday: Rest day
So, in my opinion, for my first week of really exercising went well. I’m feeling the burn and I’m really excited for next week!!! I’m so thankful that I have a friend to workout with so I’m motivated to keep doing it! :D

Here are the Asics Gel Blackhawk 3’s that I got on sale for $40 at Big 5, yesterday:

Okay, so I have only run with these once… But, all I have to say is that they felt amazing! Usually, I would have to stop in the middle of a run, even a jog, to put on my ankle brace (because I always forget to put it on, that is, until I can feel pins and needles in my ankle) but I didn’t have to stop my workout at all with these on. It was, as I said in yesterday’s post, just like I was running on pillows! Are running shoes supposed to be like that? I don’t know, but I do like it!
I hope you like your Asics as much as I like mine! :)
Step one: done. Now, onto step two…

Day 103
With school, came the extra calories… :/ Thankfully, I only got to 1506! I think it’s because I woke up way early, and I’m going to bed at around the same time that I usually do, so my body thought it needed more food. Does that sound right? Hmmm… Also, I did 100 bi/tricep curls (total) today - got to get my arms firmed up! Then, my dad told me a horror story about how he overdid his weightlifting once and ended up walking around with his arms stuck at a 90 degree angle for a week because of the muscles being cramped. He had some name for the condition, but I don’t remember it…
Anywho… OH YEAH - I got a new pair of running shoes today! (I just spelled ‘shoes’ as ‘shews’.. am I getting tired? YES.) They’re Asics, which, from what I researched, is a pretty good brand. Plus, as I was running down the aisle with them on, it felt like I was running on firm pillows, so I think they’re pretty good even if the brand isn’t as good as I think. And, I was expecting to have ankle problems (bad ankles run in my family - I usually end up twisting one of them at least three times per year…) while running, but I didn’t feel nearly as much pressure on them as I do in my old running shoes! … Also got a iPod arm band, so I can listen to my tunes (Also, I’ll post one of my fave new songs later!)
All I have left to say is that tomorrow I AM RUNNING!
Day 73
963 cals. Tons of running around. Sooo ready for bed now. No more working forever, please…
